Dolzer wanted to change all four tyres of more than 4 years. So we took a drive down town to search for this specific shop that we found accidentally when one of Dolzer's tyre got punctured.
Stupid neighbour done this to prevent us from parking his space though it's free land and he only owns a car. He seldom parked his car outside but still insist that space is his. Back then he would punctured at least 3 times in a week and infuriating as it is, we just park temporarily then move our car but the nail is always plunged into the tyre. He must have some kind of weird stealth trick, hiding in the bush and sneaking up on our car.
If you're looking for a good tyre shop, we would recommend this guy, Mr.Kong who gives good service and good deal. He used to work at a rented garage beside Esso petrol station in Pudu. Then he moved to this new place due to massive loyal customers' demand. The workshop looks pretty rundown though.
The original size for Myvi's tyre is 175/65 R14. Mr Kong only has size 185 for RM130 each. A friend of Dolzer who briefly mentioned he knows a mechanic in Malacca said size 175 (Falken) should not cost more than RM120 each.
Tyre size: 185/60 R14
Tyre brand: Falken (very popular, works as good as branded ones ie Michelin, cheaper)
Tyre price/unit: RM128 (after bargain)According to Dolzer, he was very professional because one of the tyres weight did not match the others so he made alterations, weigh and re-weigh until the tyre matches with the rest. Impressive enough he has an eye for detail and I guess that's the reason his customers come back to him. We are one of them.
We also read in the internet forum there are people going up to sizes 195 & 205 with custom rims for better performance but may result in inefficient vehicle operation, speedometer reading error and higher fuel consumption. Though Mr Kong assured us size 185 won't be a problem we still have our doubts until Dolzer started trying out his new sets of tyres.
It was much steadier and has better grip on the ground. Dolzer ran through some portholes for testing, it has less impact though I cringed whenever he does that.
note:
Punctured Tyre Repair Types:
RM5 = Repair by adding sticky rubber/glue on the surface of the punctured tyre
RM10 = Repair by turning the tyre inside out and adding the sticky rubber/glue on the interior of the punctured tyre
